Counsel/Associate

McNeill Baur PLLC, a certified woman-owned biotech and pharma-focused IP boutique, has a unique opportunity for a patent associate or counsel specializing in life science patent preparation and prosecution with at least 5 years of relevant experience. Primary responsibilities will include drafting applications, preparing responses to office actions for US and foreign applications, and preparing opinions, and other counseling projects.

Successful candidates must be admitted to practice before the USPTO and capable of working independently. An advanced degree from a superior institution is strongly preferred.  We will consider candidates for both part-time and full-time positions. The successful candidate will support partners in multiple locations and must be comfortable working independently. There is no work origination or business development requirement in this position.

Patent agent

Primary responsibilities will include drafting applications, responses to office actions for US and foreign applications, and supporting the firm’s attorneys in the technical aspects of opinions.

Successful candidates must be admitted to practice before the USPTO and capable of working independently. An advanced degree from a superior institution is strongly preferred.  We will consider candidates for both part-time and full-time positions. The successful candidate will support partners in multiple locations and must be comfortable working independently. There is no work origination or business development requirement in this position.

PATENT Prosecution Coordinator

McNeill Baur PLLC, a certified woman-owned biotech and pharma-focused IP boutique, is looking for a patent prosecution coordinator with at least 5 years of experience.This position is full or part-time, but on working days, the candidate must be able to work about 9 am to 5 pm Pacific time, (11 am to 8 pm, Eastern).

Successful candidates will be responsible for a wide range of complex and substantive duties. The patent prosecution coordinator will provide patent-related paralegal services on client billable and non-billable matters including, but not limited to:

  • o  managing foreign and PCT filings,
  • o  managing deadlines in the firm’s docket system,
  • o  drafting reporting letters,
  • o  preparing and uploading US and PCT filings onto EFS-web,
  • o  assisting with electronic file management,
  • o  assisting with the preparation of information disclosure statements,
  • o  providing general administrative support to the attorneys of the firm, and
  • o  handling other miscellaneous activities required in a small firm environment.

Candidates will be expected to take responsibility for specific client matters and will be responsible, along with the firm’s attorneys, for reviewing and meeting all deadlines assigned through the careful monitoring of docket deadlines and prioritization of daily tasks.

Required Experience:  Five years of experience in an IP law practice providing patent prosecution related tasks; a strong knowledge of US patent prosecution rules; an ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints; possess excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively and professionally; maintain a high-level of attention to detail and organization; and proficiency with EFS-Web, Microsoft software applications, and docketing systems. Preference will be given to candidates with substantial foreign filing experience.

Part-time or full-time position.
